4. Insert a new seal – see Figure 6c-3: “Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview,
50/60/80 FBG Series Pump End” on page 124. Apply a coating of general-
purpose grease to the seal to ease installation.
5. Remove the rear bearing from the bell housing.
6. Clean and inspect all parts for excessive wear, chips, scoring or other dam-
age. Also see “Ball Bearings” on page 35. Repair and/or replace
accordingly.
Gearbox, Intermediate and Drive Shafts
1. Remove the 7/16”-14 UNC x 1” screw and washer holding the intermediate
shaft in place. (See Figure 6c-3: “Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview, 50/
60/80 FBG Series Pump End” on page 124.)
2. Press the intermediate gear shaft out of the gearbox housing from the rear
of the unit (bell housing) towards the front (pump). As the shaft is removed,
reach in from the top and remove the gear and bearing assembly.
3. Remove both seal rings and examine for splits, cracks, etc. Replace
accordingly.
4. Remove the bearings from each side of the intermediate gear, then remove
both the split spacer.
5. Remove the four (4) 7/16”-14 screws and disassemble the drive shaft bear-
ing cover and gasket from the gearbox housing. (See Figure 6c-3: “Gear-
box and Bell Housing Overview, 50/60/80 FBG Series Pump End” on page
124.)
6. From the bell housing side, reach in and remove the shaft retaining ring
securing the gear to the shaft.
7. Press the drive / input shaft out of the gearbox housing from the rear of the
unit (bell housing) towards the front (pump). As the shaft is removed, reach
in from the bottom and remove the drive gear to prevent dropping it.
8. Press the front bearing from the drive shaft and remove the other retaining
ring.
9. Clean and inspect all parts for excessive wear, chips, scoring or other dam-
age. Also see “Ball Bearings” on page 35. Repair and/or replace
accordingly.
