Gearbox and Bell Housing Assemblies
To service the intermediate and/or drive shaft assemblies you must remove the
gearbox from the bell housing (flywheel) adapter and disassemble the pump
housing. (See Figure 6c-3: “Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview, 50/60/80
FBG Series Pump End” on page 124.) Also see Figure 6c-2: “Pump Shaft Oil
Seal, 50/60/80 FBG Series, with Gearbox” on page 121.

ALWAYS USE PROPER LIFTING AND SUPPORT APPARATUS (JACKS, HOISTS,
STRAPS, CHAIN, ETC.) WHEN SERVICING THE GEARBOX / BELL HOUSING
ADAPTER ASSEMBLY. EXERCISE CARE WHEN USING CHAINS TO PROTECT
FINISHED SURFACES FROM SCRATCHES.
Bell Housing (Flywheel) Adapter
1.
With the assembly adequately supported, remove the twelve (12) 3/8”-16
screws securing the bell housing (flywheel) adapter to the engine amount-
ing. (See Figure 6c-3: “Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview, 50/60/80 FBG
Series Pump End” on page 124.)

Slide the unit straight back to remove the splined drive shaft from within the
engine mount and drive disk (SAE #10 or SAE #11.5). Place and support
the assembly on a suitable work area.
Whenever the bell housing (flywheel) adapter is removed, match mark the
location of any shims between the bell housing and the engine flange and
assure they are replaced at reassembly. Also see Section 7.5 “Check Fly-
wheel Run Out” on page 129.
Note: If required, remove the eight (8) 3/8”-16 screws and washers securing the drive
disk to the engine mount. Examine, repair and/or replace the rubber disks as
required. Always replace ALL disks as a set at the same time.
Drive Shaft Oil Seal

With the gearbox and bell housing removed from the engine (see heading
“Gearbox and Bell Housing Assemblies” on page 123.), remove the single
(1) 7/16”-14 and the eight (8) 7/16”-14 screws to dismantle the bell housing
from the gearbox. (See Figure 6c-3: “Gearbox and Bell Housing Overview,
50/60/80 FBG Series Pump End” on page 124.)
