Since the system is initially in the auto-provisioning mode by default. The Control Module is discovered in the
slot and is provisioned, in this case as the inactive Control Module (INACTCFC).

Check for fault indicators on the inactive Control Module in slot 12/13:
The LEDs should be as follows:
•
ACT = OFF
•
PULL = OFF
•
FAULT = OFF
•
INSRV = ON
•
Alarm LEDs = OFF

Depending on what is observed in Step 4, perform the following:
•
If there are no faults, go to section
to check for any other alarms.
•
If there are faults on the inactive Control Module card, troubleshoot the faulty Control Module card by
referring to the 9700 User Guide.

Check the management logs for any problems by inputting the following.
Note:
Command responses are representative examples only. Initial system startup responses
should be relatively free of error logs.
SHOW LOG SEVERITY=CRITICAL
SHOW LOG SEVERITY=MAJOR
SHOW LOG SEVERITY=MINOR
SHOW ALARMS ALL
The MAC card is located internally behind Service Module slots 2/3 of the chassis. When the system is first pow-
ered up, if the MAC card is defective, the following message and alarm is produced:
•
A SYS009 log is generated with text “Cannot Read MAC Address”
•
A major alarm is set against the shelf with the text “Cannot Read MAC Address”
If the above condition exists, the user can display system MAC information using the SHOW SYSTEM com-
mand. An example follows. Note that this is only a partial listing of the SHOW SYSTEM command:
