5 Configuration operations
This chapter provides instructions and information for setting up a Continuous Access Synchronous
Z system that is ready for pair operations.
Configuration workflow
Configuration tasks consist of the following:
•
Check prerequisites for each procedure.
•
In the production system, identify the production volume or volumes that will become Continuous
Access Synchronous Z M-VOLs. In the remote backup system, create the volumes that will
become the R-VOLs. For information on pair volume requirements, see
.
•
On the main and remote system, install the data paths. For more information, see
.
•
On main and remote system, configure the Fibre Channel ports that will be used for Continuous
Access Synchronous Z operations. Configure initiator and RCU target ports. Review
, and then see
“Define port attributes” (page 45)
for details.
•
On the main system, create the Continuous Access Synchronous Z association with the remote
system where your R-VOL(s) will be located. See
“Configure disk arrays and define logical
. Logical paths between the systems are added during this procedure.
You may also perform these additional procedures prior to the initial copy:
•
Add additional logical paths. See
“Configure additional logical paths” (page 51)
.
•
Specify the number of volumes to copy at one time. See
“Set number of volumes to be copied
concurrently, path watch time” (page 52)
.
Define port attributes
Initiator and RCU target ports must be set up on the main and remote system for Continuous Access
Synchronous Z command and data transfer.
Prerequisite information
Before configuring ports, make sure they are ready to have a new attribute assigned, as follows:
•
If you are changing a target port to an initiator port, prepare the port for the change as follows:
Disconnect the port from the host.
◦
◦
Release affected pairs.
◦
Delete all logical paths.
◦
Remove all channel paths to the port.
•
If you are changing an initiator port to target or RCU target port, prepare the port for the
change as follows:
◦
Release affected pairs.
◦
Delete the paths from the initiator port to the remote storage system.
◦
Delete the RCU.
The number of hosts connected to a target port must be limited to 128 or fewer to avoid
disconnection. See
for information on target, initiator, and RCU target
ports.
