With Fibre Channel connections, you can use the switches as ordinary switch connections. No
special settings are required for the P9500.
Direct connections up to 10 km with single-mode longwave Fibre Channel interface cables are
supported. Link speed determines the maximum distance you can transfer data and still achieve
good performance. The following shows link speed and maximum distance for best performance.

Supported data path configurations
Three Fibre Channel configurations are supported for Continuous Access Synchronous Z.

Direct connection—two devices are connected directly together, shown below.

Set port topology to: Fab off, FC-AL.
In the configuration using 8UFC or 16UFC P/K between the MCU and RCU with a long
distance (approximately 100 km) direct connection, the response time of the host mode I/O
can be improved by setting host mode options as shown in the following Table.
For the configuration to set the host mode options, ensure the use of a HP-approved extender.
