Failover connections are set up in the Connect/Disconnect Cameras dialog box. When you connect a
camera to a server, you are asked to select the Connection Type and License Priority.

The Connection Type determines when the camera will connect to a server:

Primary: the camera will automatically connect to this server if they are on the same network.

Secondary: the camera will try to connect to this server if they are on the same network, and the

primary server is not available.

Tertiary: the camera will try to connect to this server if they are on the same network, and the

primary and secondary servers are not available.

The License Priority setting decides the order that cameras are connected to the server — 1 is the
highest and 5 is the lowest. The server will try to connect cameras with a higher license priority before
cameras with lower priority. If the server does not have enough camera channel licenses, low priority
cameras may not be connected. A camera channel license is only used when the camera actually
connects to the server.

To set up a failover connection, complete the

Connecting a Camera to a Server

procedure and set the

failover Connection Type and License Priority.

Example

Cameras A, B, C, D, E and F have failover connections set up to two different servers. Assume each
server has 6 camera channel licenses, and the license priority is set to 1 for each connection.
