2014 30 SERIES OPERATOR’S MANUAL – DOMESTIC 63

In order to get the proper packing and penetrating forces per field, we recom-
mend lowering the opener shank pressure from the tractor at the beginning of
each field.  Every new Seed Hawk toolbar manufactured has a preset  opener
shank pressure of approximately 1000 psi.

The chain between the seed and fertilizer knife will be tight when applying the
proper amount of pressure to the opener shank. Once the chains get tight,
notice the shank pressure gauge and its reading. In ideal seeding conditions, add
an additional 200 psi to the system. When seeding small seeds such as canola
in wet conditions, adding an additional 200 psi is not recommended. This will
cause over compaction. Maximum hydraulic system packing pressure is
1500 psi.

IMPORTANT! Always ensure that the two knives are maintaining seed and
fertilizer separation. Seed Hawk

®

recommends checking the actual seed and

fertilizer separation in each field. Soil and moisture conditions vary. Over time
the opener bolts, if not tightened on a yearly basis, will not function as intended,
causing seed and fertilizer separation to change.

The seed drill wings must be down, and the openers lowered into the ground
before the seed hoppers are emptied.

5.10 Emptying the Hoppers

2. Do not forget to close the emptying hatch (B) after emptying. The latch clamp
(A) can't be closed if the hatch is closed incorrectly. If the latch clamp cannot be
closed, open and clean so that the emptying hatch lock can catch correctly.
Check and clean the rotors after emptying of the seed hoppers. This is particu-
larly important when the seed box is used for fertilizer feed.

1. When the seed hopper is to be emptied, open the latch clamp (A), allow the
emptying hatch (B) to hang down and push in the shut-off hatch (C).
