7.2.3 Connecting the DC shunt
DANGER
Risk of fatal injury due to electric shock
Incorrect installation of DC shunts may cause serious battery damage.

DC shunts must be installed in the minus line of the battery.

It is only permitted to measure the current from renewable sources or DC loads, and not incoming
or outgoing AC or DC current from the battery inverter.
CAUTION
Hazard due to faulty connection of the battery measurement and pre-charging
To avoid equipment damage, the switch for the battery measurement and pre-charge must be
closed before the main battery isolator.
NOTE
The battery temperature sensor is pre-wired with the extension card and must be fitted in thermal
contact with the middle of one side of a battery and insulated for precise charging results against
external temperature effects.
Connecting the measurement cable
1. Insert the external shunt through the cable fitting.
2. Connect the double-insulated cable on the shunt and inside the device to the DC cable.
3. Connect the expansion card cable to the bidirectional battery inverter.
NOTE
The measurement cable must be kept as short as possible. Cat.5 cables or multi-core installation cables
are suitable for the measurement cabling of the shunt.
The cables are connected to the battery minus terminal. Both cables should be protected using suita-
ble overcurrent protective devices.
The polarity of the shunt measurement cables is not relevant for the system if these have been config-
ured either to "Load" or one of the input options such as "Solar".
However, the polarity is important if the shunt is being used in dual mode; in other words the shunt is
used both for the input and output measurement to obtain a net result.
In dual mode, the measurement cables must be correctly connected: Shunt connection terminal 1A or
2A of the expansion card to the solar and load sides, 1B or 2B to the minus side of the battery.
7.2.4 Connecting the generator
NOTE
For a generator run start signal, at least one wire pair is required that needs to be wired to one of the
four relay outputs.
Cat.5 cables or multi-core installation cables are suitable for the control cabling.
Connecting the generator control
1. Insert the generator control cable through the cable fitting.
2. Connect the expansion card cable to the bidirectional battery inverter.
3. Seal all unused holes in the lead-through plates.
