Changing Meters
If seed is loaded, it will be necessary to unload it before
changing meters, as there is no way to stop seed flow
when a meter is disconnected from the upper drop tube.
See “Main Seed Box Clean-Out” on page 104.
1.
Clean out meters to be removed. See page 107 or
page 109.
Note: If precision wheel is not free of all seed, wheel re-
moval is much more difficult, as pocketed seeds will
shear against meter parts.
Refer to Figure 53
2.
Release upper latch, and swing drive plate out until
meter shaft can spin freely.
3.
Release lower latch.
Refer to Figure 54
4.
Lift up and remove meter, along with the lower
section of the sliding seed tube.
5.
Remove the lower section of sliding seed tube from
the cap of the meter just removed.
6.
Note whether the meter just removed is:
/ a rear or mid meter, with tube tilted forward, or
\ a front meter, with tube tilted to the rear.
Refer to Figure 55
7.
While the meter is removed, inspect the meter drive
components, and apply any needed lubrication to the
chain.
8.
Select an alternate meter to install. Select one with
the sliding cap grommet having the same tilt
orientation as the meter just removed.
Note: If the alternate meters are brand new, they may all
have their caps set the same (typically, tilted to
rear). if so, remove both sliding cap pins on half
a
the meters and reverse the caps. Be sure to use the
cotter pin to secure the cap pin in the slotted hole of
the cap.
a. For an odd number of rows, a “mid” row is treated as a rear row (cap tilted forward).
