Transmission Sprockets
Note: The DRIVEN shaft
of the Transmission is also a
storage shaft

14. Loosen the bolt securing the idler plate
, and rotate
the idler out of engagement with the chain. Remove
the chain from any sprockets to be changed. Hang
the chain on the idlers to prevent ground contact.
15. To change the DRIVING sprocket
, remove the
lynch pin.
Exchange sprockets and re-pin the adaptor.
16. To change the DRIVEN sprocket
, remove the pin,
all stored sprockets and the current driven sprocket.
Exchange sprockets, re-install spacers and re-pin.
17. Store all loose sprockets on storage shafts and
re-pin those shafts.

18. Reroute chain over sprockets and idlers. Make sure
open end of chain clip faces away from direction of
chain travel (shown by gray arrows).
19. Rotate idler into chain so chain has

in slack in its
longest span (see page 112 for chain slack). Tighten
idler. Re-pin all three shafts.
20. Configure other gauge wheel to match.
Checking Main Box Seed Rate
• Great Plains recommends checking singulated seed-
ing rates (page 39). If you have the optional seed mon-
itor, it does this for you during planting, and no extra
verification is required.
• Great Plains recommends calibrating volumetric seed-
ing rates (page 40). The optional seed monitor can
report blockage, but is not a substitute for calibration.
• Small Seeds and Fertilizer have their own calibrations
(page 42 and page 46). The seed monitor has no sen-
sors on those delivery tubes.
Singulated rates are precise, when field conditions (nom-
inal slippage) and tire conditions (wear and inflation) are
similar to those used to develop the rate charts. Your
conditions will vary over time. Rate checking also detects
any drill configuration errors.
Volumetric rates are approximate, as volumetric wheels
do not pick and place one seed per cell as singulating
wheels do. Field rates can vary significantly from chart
rates, and only calibration provides the necessary cor-
rection, ensuring desired population.
