the correct host. Administrators can also use the auto-reconnect feature in this
environment.
Unmanaged environment with a shared network (static IP): The benefits of using
static IP addresses in a shared, unmanaged environment are similar to those described
above for reserved DHCP addresses. When using static IP addresses, a DHCP server is
not required in the environment.
Unmanaged environment with direct connections: Using SLP enables zero clients to
automatically discover host cards. In this environment, administrators can replace
(change) zero clients without reconfiguring peer settings.
Network and subnets
ClearCube recommends creating a subnet specifically for PCoIP traffic and connecting zero
clients and blades using PCoIP technology to that subnet. Keep regular network traffic and
PCoIP traffic on different subnets can significantly improve network bandwidth usage.
Network and hardware
Ensure that all necessary network devices are configured correctly. See
” on page
and the following subsections for more information.
Network
Create a numbering or other identification scheme that enables you to physically associate
zero clients with host cards (in this case, with the blade containing the host card) and the
chassis and racks that contain them.
Use the simplest connection mode and network topology possible for your environment (see
Connection Modes and Network Topology
” on page
mode). The following list details connection methodologies starting with the simplest and
ending with the most complex (these are discussed in detail later in this document):
Direct connection using static IP addresses and homerun cabling
Network connection using static IP addresses
Network connection using DHCP and reserved IP addresses
Network connection using DHCP
Mounting, airflow, and temperature
Ensure that vents on the top or sides of zero clients are unobstructed. Do not rest anything on
top of or on the side of zero clients, such as papers, optical drives, and so on. Doing so can
