INSTALLATION NOTES
The Full Cage Kit will work with the factory

Jeep soft top. The sound bar can be modified

(read: ‘cut up’) to fit. Duster rear deck covers,

“windjammers” and short style bikini tops will

work. However, “safari” style bikini tops will not

fit. Children can ride in the back seat but the

Poison Spyder Full Cage Kit was NOT designed

to accommodate adult passengers in the OE

back seat.
Installation of the Full Cage Kit can take up to 8

hours. This kit requires welding, which should be

done by a certified welder. You will need a friend

or two to assist with the installation. A good set

of Torx bits is required for removal of the factory

cage, including a T-50 “tamper-proof” Torx bit.
IMPORTANT: It is imperative that the top, doors,

seats, plus any other components that are going

to be reinstalled after the cage install be test-

fitted BEFORE final welding of the cage! Poison

Spyder Customs is not liable for fitment issues

due to negligent install.

Some of the following photos are from

a TJ cage install. While the procedures

are similar, specific parts shown in

some photos may differ slightly from

the actual YJ version you are installing.

INSTALL PROCEDURE
NOTE: In most cases, the laser-cut notches and

laser-etched assembly marks will eliminate all

guesswork. Regardless, carefully inspect each

part and its placement prior to tacking and finish-

welding. Also, each step should be extrapolated

for both sides, where any procedure is to be

duplicated on both sides of the cage.
1. Park vehicle on a level surface and set the

emergency brake. You will want to wear eye

protection beyond this point.

2. Remove any existing hard top, soft top and

associated bracketry, front seats, roll bar or

cage, and spreader bars if present. Save

any bolts that mounted the OE roll bar to the

floor, as these may be re-used during the

install of the new Poison Spyder cage. Place

welding blankets or some sort of protective

covering over the Jeep’s dash and interior to

protect it from weld splatter.

3. Clean ALL bare metal pieces provided in the

kit, using a clean rag and brake cleaner. This

will ensure an easier, cleaner installation and

better welds later in the installation.

4. Weld the A-Pillar Inner Plates

2

to the

inside of each corresponding Lower A-Pillar

1

. Align the bottom and two long side edges

of the Inner Plate and the Lower A-Pillar. It is

not necessary to put a continuous bead all the

way around the Inner Plate. Stitch-welding

in 1” increments will yield plenty of strength.

If a full weld is desired for aesthetics, stitch-

weld in increments to keep the assembly

from warping during welding. The result will

be a fully boxed bottom section of the Lower

A-Pillar.

5. Weld the A-Pillar Top Gusset

3

onto each

Lower a-Pillar. It will fit into the only open 90º

bend at the top end of the A-Pillar.

6. Along either side of the Jeep’s dash there

are four bolts going into the firewall, which

match the slotted bolt pattern found on the

A-Pillars. Remove these bolts from both

sides.

7. Install the Lower A-Pillars into place using

the three bolts you removed during in the

previous step. The mounting holes in the

A-Pillars are slotted to allow for vertical

adjustment. Leave the bolts only snug

enough to hold the A-Pillars in place but

loose enough to allow them to slide up and

down within the slots.

8. Position the Foot Plates

4

beneath each

A-Pillar. Make sure the plates are positioned

so that the A-Pillar lands as close to the

center as possible, but so the bolt holes

that must be drilled through the floor are

correctly located away from any obstructions

underneath the floor. Tack-weld the A-Pillars

to the Foot Plates.

9. Drill the four bolt holes into the Jeep’s

floorboards, using the holes in each of the

Foot Plates as your drill guide. Bolt the Foot

Plates into place (hardware not included in

Kit).

10. Install the B-Pillar Mount Plates L&R

8

in the locations where the main hoop of the

factory roll bar bolted in, just behind the door
