Images appear smeared.
The lens is dirty. Clean the lens.
Colors are unnatural.
White balance does not match light

The shutter speed is too slow or ISO
sensitivity is high as the subject is
dark. Noise can be reduced by:
• Using the flash
• Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity
setting
Images are too dark
(underexposed).
• The flash mode setting is set to W
(Off).
• The flash window is blocked.
• The subject is beyond the range
of the flash.
• Adjust exposure compensation.
• Increase the ISO sensitivity.
• The subject is backlit. Select
Backlighting scene mode or set
the flash mode setting to X (Fill
flash).
Images are too bright
(overexposed).
Adjust exposure compensation.
Unexpected results when
flash set to b (auto with red-
eye reduction).
When taking images with
b (auto
with red-eye reduction) or fill flash
with slow sync and red-eye
reduction in Night portrait scene
mode, the In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
processing may be applied to areas
not affected by red-eye. Use any
scene mode other than Night
portrait, and change the flash
mode to any setting other than
b
(auto with red-eye reduction) and
try taking an image again.
Skin tones are not softened.
• Under some shooting conditions,
facial skin tones may not be
softened.
• Select Skin softening in the
retouch menu for images
containing four or more faces.
