Creating V-VOLs
The V-VOL is the paired volume of the P-VOL. You must create a V-VOL before you can create the
pair.
Prerequisite Information
•
The data pool must be set up prior to creating the V-VOL.
•
The V-VOL must be the same size as the P-VOL.
•
A maximum of 64 V-VOLs are allowed per P-VOL.
•
For HP-UX: a volume already recognized by the HP-UX host server must not be used as a
V-VOL; otherwise an error occurs and the host server is terminated. Recognize the volume
from the host after the pair is created.
•
See
“System requirements” (page 10)
for V-VOL requirements.
•
See
“Planning V-VOLs, data pools” (page 12)
for a discussion on the number of V-VOLs to
create, how long to hold a Snapshot, and other planning considerations.
