5 Using the CFL Extension

This chapter describes the CFL Extension that allows you to perform operations by entering
commands in the command line of a Remote Web Console computer (for example, from a Windows
command prompt or a UNIX shell prompt).

Overview of the CFL Extension

The CFL Extension enables users to perform operations on the storage system by entering commands
in the command line rather than using the Remote Web Console GUI. For the current microcode
version, LUN Expansion, Universal Replicator for Mainframe, and XP External Storage support CFL
Extension.

CFL Extension has the following advantages compared to the Remote Web Console GUI:

Batch processing

CFL Extension reduces the operation time because it does not involve any interactive user
operation. This benefits users when large-scale changes are required for the storage system.

Interoperability with other programs

CFL Extension provides the commands that allow you to:

Save the storage system configuration in a CFL spreadsheet

Change the storage system configuration by using a CFL spreadsheet

Check a CFL spreadsheet before applying the configuration to the storage system

You can assemble these commands in your batch/script files, such as Windows batch files
or UNIX shell scripts.

Checking function

CFL Extension provides a checking command. If a CFL spreadsheet has an error, you can
easily find out the problem with the spreadsheet by looking at the checking results in the CFL
spreadsheet.

CFL Extension Operations

CFL Extension allows you to:

Configure the storage system by using a spreadsheet

Save the storage system configurations in spreadsheets

Figure 68 (page 119)

describes these operation procedures.
