SECTION 2: GETTING STARTED

EXITING WIN-SITU

1. Select Exit from the File menu.

2. If changes have been made to the site, Win-Situ will ask if you want

to save the modifications. Such modifications may include the initial
configuration of an empty site, as well as unit preferences saved in
the site file. Do one of the following:

• Select Yes to save the current settings for future use. This site

will open the next time you launch Win-Situ.

• Select No to abandon the changes. In this case, the “Home” site

will again open up blank when you start Win-Situ the next time.

YOUR NEXT WIN-SITU SESSION

Each time you start Win-Situ, the site and the connection (if any) saved
in your last session are displayed in the navigation tree.

To connect:

1. Select the connec-

tion.

2. Click the Connect

button.

ABOUT SITES AND CONNECTIONS

The site is the topmost node in Win-Situ’s Navigation tree. A site
consists of one or more connections.

When you launch Win-Situ for the first time, a new, empty site called
“Home” is opened and displayed at the top of the Navigation tree. You
can add one or more connections to the site with the Add Connection
button.

When learning to use the software in the office, with a direct connection
to a device such as a TROLL or MiniTROLL, think of the site as your
computer, and the connection as the COM port to which the device is
physically connected. As you develop networks of instruments and

TIP: To start Win-Situ from Windows Explorer, double-click a
Win-Situ file in the folder where Win-Situ is installed. Win-
Situ files have a .WS extension.
