4.8 Installing server software (asxserver package)
The following software package has to be installed before installing Advanced
Server for UNIX:
If you want to use the WINS service then one of the following packages has to be
installed before installing Advanced Server for UNIX:
This package is only necessary if the machine should run the Advanced Server for
UNIX WINS service.
The “SIthreads“ package is included on the operating system CD with more recent
operating system versions. This package replaces the previous version
“DCE-THR“. In this case, you should only use the “SIthreads“ package.
4.8.1 Preparing the installation
If the servers of the domain are distributed over several subnetworks, ensure that NetBIOS
can resolve the names. For details on configuring NetBIOS name resolution, please refer
to the section
“Configuring NetBIOS Name Resolution” .
The individual installation steps depend on whether you are carrying out an upgrade instal-
lation from a previous version or a new installation. Furthermore, the installation require-
ments and steps differ depending on the server role required.
