TROUBLESHOOTING

DEAD, NO FUNCTIONS
If the display is blank and no beep is heard
when a key is pressed:

Verify that the power lead is connected
to the battery, with Red to the Plus(+)
terminal and Black to the Minus(-)
terminal or ground.

Try another power source.

Check for greater than 11.0 volts at the
power connector contacts, as shown
below. Check the remaining contacts
also.

TWO ROWS OF BOXES on display, and no

other functions, means some power is
getting to the Diagnostic Center:

Verify that a System Program Cartridge
is properly installed in the bottom socket.
DO NOT install or remove cartridges
with power applied!

Verify that more than 11.0 volts and less
than 18.0 volts is being supplied to the
Diagnostic Center. See above.

If more than one cartridge is installed,
disconnect power and remove all
cartridges except the bottom one.
Reconnect power.

NO RPM or INTERMITTENT RPM:

See CONNECTIONS section.

Try reversing the cylinder #1 pickup on
the wire.

Try another spark plug wire. If there is
arcing before the pickup, the signal will
be intermittent.

Verify that spark is not arcing to the
pickup.

Check ceramic cores in pickup for chips
or cracks.

Check leads and plugs.

DISPLAY IS BLACK (completely or
partially):

If the Control Module has been in the hot

sun, or the sun has been beating on the
LCD display, ALLOW THE DISPLAY TO
COOL BEFORE FURTHER USE.

If the display has been in a freezing

location, ALLOW THE DISPLAY
TO WARM GRADUALLY BEFORE
FURTHER USE.

NO COMMUNICATIONS message appears:

Check the Gas Detector cable con-
nections at each end. The Gas Detector
will get power if plugged into the Ferret
Network plug, but it will not communicate
properly.

Inspect the cable for pinches, cuts, etc.

'HC HANGUP' or PURGE test fail occurs
when the Sample Hose Assembly or the
filters are dirty. Refer to the MAINTENANCE
