SAMPLING
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Always warm up the engine before inserting
the sample probe into the tail pipe. Cold
engines give off large amounts of pollutants
and vapor. These will quickly contaminate the
Sample Hose Assembly as well as the filters.
To assure accurate readings, disconnect or
disable the air injection system, unless a
specific test requires it be left enabled.
After sampling, allow the system to purge
before removing power. Residues left in the
system are harder to clear after they have
been left for a while. When sampling is
complete, remove the sample hose from the
tailpipe and place it where fresh air can be
drawn in. Allow the Diagnostic Center to run
in the Emissions test or purge function while
disconnecting other leads. Removing the
power last allows the most time for purging.
Insert the sample probe into the tailpipe as
shown. The spring action of the sample
probe will hold it in place.
Allow readings to stabilize. It takes a few
seconds for a change in the exhaust to
appear on the display. Before a change
reaches the display, the sample must be
pumped through the entire length of the
Sample Hose Assembly, the filter system and
into the detector chamber.
