MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Battery
Replenishing Battery Fluid
A poorly maintained battery will
deteriorate rapidly. Check the battery
fluid level often. The fluid level
should be kept between the upper and
lower level marks.
Battery Connections
Battery terminals and connections should be kept free of corrosion.
If cleaning is necessary, remove the corrosion with a stiff wire brush.
Wash with a solution of one tablespoon baking soda and one cup water.
Rinse well with tap water and dry off with clean rags. Coat the
terminals with dielectric grease or petroleum jelly.
CAUTION
Whenever removing the battery, disconnect the negative (black)
cable first. When reinstalling the battery, connect the negative
(black) cable last.
Maintain
between
upper and
lower level
marks
CAUTION
Use only distilled water when refilling a battery. Tap water
contains minerals which are harmful to a battery.
Allowing cleaning solution or tap water to enter the battery will
shorten the life of the battery.
CAUTION
Vehicle lamps may burn out if battery is disconnected during
vehicle operation. Also, the reverse speed limiter can be damaged.
