Configuring DNS

DNS is database system that translates a host name into an IP address using
TCP/IP. For example, abc.com is converted into an address such as
207.219.116.4. DNS is a static, hierarchical name service housed on a number
of servers on the Internet. It maintains this database for resolving host names
and IP addresses. This allows you to specify remote computers by host or user
name rather than by numerical IP address.

To configure DNS, choose

System | System Services | DNS

. The DNS

window appears with the local domain:

(To change the current domain name, from the Network menu, choose

Names

and IPs

.)

1. Enter the IP address of the primary server.

2. (Optional) Enter an IP address of a backup server to use if the system cannot

locate the primary server.

3. (Optional) Enter an IP address of a second backup server.

4. Click

Save

.
