OptraGate
® ExtraSoft is an auxiliary aid for clinical use which allows the
working field to be accessed with ease.
It provides retraction of lips and cheeks during dental treatment, offers the
clinician increased visibility and accessibility and facilitates moisture control
in the oral cavity. The device, which features high three-dimensional flexibility
and elasticity, ensures patient comfort and assists in keeping the patient's
mouth open. OptraGate is available in sizes Regular, Small as well as Junior
for children between 5 and 10 years of age. The modified “ExtraSoft Version”
offers a snug, particularly gentle fit in the area of the upper and lower lip
frenulum which minimizes intra-oral pressure.
Composition
Thermoplastic elastomer (SEBS) and polypropylene.
OptraGate ExtraSoft is latex-free.
Indication
Suitable for use in diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic dental procedures
(in particular restorative procedures, cavity preparation, professional tooth
cleaning, diagnostic procedures, scaling & root planing, tooth whitening, im-
pression making).
Contraindications
The use of OptraGate ExtraSoft is contraindicated
– in oral surgical and implantological procedures;
– if the patient is known to be allergic to any of the
components of OptraGate ExtraSoft.
Description of the procedure
The elastic material of OptraGate ExtraSoft is stretched by mean of two rings.
The thicker ring of the device is positioned in the area of the gingivobuccal
fold, while the thinner ring, which features two tabs, remains outside the
mouth. The elastic component between the two rings thus embraces the lips
of the patient and provides retraction due to the restoring force of the rings
(see Figure 1).

It does not interfere with the patient's occlusion.
1. Select the appropriate sized OptraGate ExtraSoft. The size (R for regular,
S for small or J for Junior) is printed on the package as well as on the left
tab of OptraGate ExtraSoft. To ensure optimum function, we recommend
inserting the largest size that fits in the patient’s mouth.
