Adding a Direct Connection Network
The simplest type of network to use is a “direct” network. On this type of network, a dedicated wire
connection is used between the control computer and display(s). (No modem is used.)
1. Click on
at the top of the Venus 1500 Administrator to activate the network
configuration screen.
2. Right-click on
Direct Networks
on the left side of
the screen. A
popup menu
appears. Click on
New…

3. In the
Description
(name) field,
enter a name for
the new network.
4. Select Direct
Networks in the
Network Type field, if it is not
already selected.
5. Click once on the down arrow next
to COM ports. A listing of
installed ports for your computer
appears.
6. Select the desired serial port for
display communications. (The
default is COM1.)
7. Click on [
OK
] to save the changes
and close the Network
Configuration dialog box.

Adding the Display Type
The display type refers to the basic description of the display and the technology (line, character or
matrix display, LED, reflective or incandescent, color depth, etc.). In this section, we will assume a
tricolor (red, green and amber) LED matrix sign will be used (a Daktronics Galaxy display). The
display is 64 pixels high by 120 pixels wide.
1. Click on
to activate the display
configuration screen.
2. From the Edit pull-down
menu, select New and then
Display Type. The Display
Type Configuration dialog
box appears.
3. Click on the down arrow
next to the Technology
