6000
UPG
instruments designated UPG3 on the serial label are wired to support a direct modem
interface via the YSI 6105 MS-8 to DB-25 male modem adapter. Since modems are so diverse in
their default factory configuration, it is often necessary to send a “configuration” string to the
modem so it will work properly with the 6000
UPG
. This is typically done through the use of “AT”
command sequences sent to the modem once connected. Please refer to your modem manual for
the proper “AT” commands to configure your modem with the following setup:

To program the initialization string into the 6000
UPG
, from the main menu select 5. System
setup
,
then 3. Communication
,
then 3. Modem Setup. The following menu will then be
displayed
Select this option to input the proper initialization string for your modem. Review the table above
for proper configuration settings. It is important to note that the above table is not all inclusive and
that some experimentation may be necessary, especially when mixing modem brands, to get a
working system. The user must include the “AT” portion of the command. An example
initialization string for a US Robotics 14.4 modem would be
“AT&F0&C1&H0&I0&D2S0=0V1X4Q0”.
