This chapter explains how to store, clean, and protect your
Field PC and battery pack.
Caring for Your Field PC
Storing your Field PC and Battery Pack
When the Field PC is not being charged and is suspended, it draws
a small amount of power. This power draw is used to maintain the
memory (RAM) of the Field PC in the same state it was when it was
suspended. We recommend charging the Field PC each night or
weekend when it is in suspend mode.
If the Field PC is not charged while in suspend mode and the
battery reaches a low charge, the Field PC automatically powers
off to prevent further drain on the battery.
Data and programs are secure as long as they have been saved,
even if the battery pack becomes discharged. The Field PC does
not depend on the battery to store the data for extended periods.
Storing the Field PC for Less Than Two Weeks
To protect the files on your Field PC and the unit itself during
storage periods of less than two weeks, complete the following
steps:
1. Close all application programs.
2. Plug the Field PC into the AC wall adapter that was
shipped with your Field PC.
Note: Charging the Field PC while in not in use insures accurate
battery guaging, and avoids discharging of the battery to low
levels.
Storing the Field PC for More than Two Weeks
To protect the files on your Field PC and the unit itself during
storage periods of two weeks or more, complete the following
steps:
1. Charge the battery to full capacity (100%).
2. Close all running programs and turn off the Field PC.
3. Remove the battery pack(s).
4. Place the battery pack in a dry location.
