• Best results can only be obtained
from plane surfaces.

• Since gloss properties are usually not
constant over the complete sample
surface, the reflectometer value
should be determined on several
different locations of the sample and
the readings should be averaged.

• If a sample surface is structured, i.e.
the gloss porperties are dependent
on the measuring direction, it is
recommended to report the structure
characteristics and the angle of
incidence or to calculate the mean
value from readings taken in varying
directions.

• Samples that have to be measured
several times during a test (e.g.
weathering samples) should be
marked correspondingly in order to
make sure that comparison
measurements or check tests will be
performed on the same location.

Haze Measurement provides:

• better differentiation of optical
properties for high gloss surfaces

• an indirect method to evaluate and
characterize paint and raw material
properties, such as

- degree of dispersion
- flocculation behavior
- wetting properties
- scratch resistance
- weathering tests
- optimization of paint formulae

• an indirect method to evaluate the
manufacturing process of the surface.

Haze Measuring

• press

haze key

If

haze compensation: off was

selected in the Set Up Menu, "nc."
(= not compensated) appears in the
upper left corner of the display.

In many cases, the reflectometer value
does not suffice to describe the optical
properties of a surface. In addition to
color and gloss, reflection haze is of
great importance.
