Downloading Firmware to Explorer
Explorer has been designed so that you can easily download the newest version of
firmware to the instrument. You do not need to open the instrument and remove
the current EPROM, you simply connect
Explorer to a PC and download the
firmware to the EPROM.
In order to establish communication with
Explorer and send data, the PC must be
set up to emulate a terminal. In order to do this you will need a communications
software package that will allow you to transfer data from the PC to
Explorer. If you
are using Microsoft Windows you do not need to purchase any separate software,
Windows contains a communication program called Terminal Program or
HyperTerminal depending on which version of Windows you are running.
You will use the communication or terminal emulation software package to set up
the PC to send data at 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits and 1 stop bit. Refer to the
manual, provided with your software, for specific details.
The instructions below will provide you with the most basic information for using
Explorer with HyperTerminal. In order to use HyperTerminal, you must be
familiar with Windows
32-bit 7 or 8 and it must be installed and running on your
PC. HyperTerminal is
no longer supplied with Windows 32-bit 7 or 8, but can be
downloaded for free online. Refer to the Microsoft Windows User’s Guide for
detailed instructions on installation and operation of Windows
32-bit 7 or 8 and
HyperTerminal. If you are using another software package, please refer to your
software’s user manual for specific details of operation.
