Solution
The storage device
does not power on.
? Make sure the cables are connected correctly and securely. The
primary power cord needs to be connected when power is turned on.
? Cycle the power switch off and back on.
On boot up, my NAS
VA does not bring up
the web interface,
leaving me stuck at a
prompt.
From the command line, run set_parms initial. This command
will step you through an initial setup covering hostname, IP Address, and
time zone in the first section; additional parameters include subnet mask,
gateway IP address, local domain name, DNS server IP address, NIS
domain name and NIS IP address. You will need to reboot after these
settings. You then should be able to manage your system through the
NAS web interface.
The Windows
environment does
not recognize the HP
NAS VA machine
name.
If you use names instead of IP addresses to define parameters in the
Configuration tab, you must map your IP address to a machine name.
Make sure:
? the addresses of the WINS servers are entered in the Configuration
tab under Networking Settings > Windows Settings > CIFS (Samba)
? the Domain Name Server is entered in the Configuration tab under
Networking Settings > TCP/IP Settings > DNS.
? these servers are running.
? the system name on the HP NAS VA matches the entry on the DNS
server.
The Windows
environment does
not see the HP NAS
VA volumes or
directories.
? Make sure the volumes or directories have been shared appropriately.
Click the Storage tab, then select Quick Setup > RAID Device Setup
and view the RAID Device Summary.
? Make sure there is no IP address conflict with another computer. Click
the Status tab, then select Syslog and look for IP conflict messages.
What happens if a
drive fails?
If a disk drive is assigned as an active spare, the system automatically
switches to the active spare and rebuilds the data on the failed drive.
During this process, the active spare becomes a member of the RAID
set, and the system continues to serve files without interruption. System
warnings alert you that a drive failure has occurred. When the failed drive
is replaced, you must manually assign the new drive to be the new active
spare. The drive replacement kit provides detailed instructions.
