Managing Logical Volumes
Viewing Logical Volume Information
Logical volumes are the basic unit of logical storage for a file system on the HP NAS VA. You
create logical volumes by allocating space in a volume group. Therefore, before you can create a
logical volume, you must create a volume group.
A complete management suite is available to manage your logical volumes and volume groups.

After you have created logical volumes, you can create shares or mounts under the new logical
volumes to make your data accessible to other computers.
To view summary information on all logical volumes that exist on your HP NAS VA:
1. Using the NAS web interface, click the Storage tab.
2. Navigate down the System Storage tree to the Advanced Setup > Local Storage section and
select Logical Vols/Volume Groups.
A table displays the following information for every logical volume:

Logical volume name
o
Volume group of which the logical volume is a part
o
Mount point
You can also edit a logical volume from this location.
You can click on a column heading to sort items in that column. The Actions button in the upper
left corner lets you:
o
Force a hardware rescan (slow)
o
View detailed information about a selected logical volume
o
Mount a selected logical volume
o
Unmount a selected logical volume
o
Delete a logical volume
o
Extend the size of a logical volume
o
Reduce the size of a logical volume
Creating a New Logical Volume
Logical volumes are the basic unit of storage for a file system on the HP NAS VA. In order to
create logical volumes, you must already have created one or more volume groups.
To create a new logical volume:
1. Using the NAS web interface, click the Storage tab.
2. Navigate down the System Storage tree to the Advanced Setup >Local Storage and
select Logical Vols/Volume Groups.
3. Scroll down the page to the Volume Groups heading.
4. Select a Volume Group from the table in which to create your new logical volume.
5. Select Actions > Create a New Logical Volume.
6. Enter a new Logical Volume Name.
7. Enter the desired logical volume Capacity.
8. Enter the name of the Mount Point.
You have now created a new volume. You must make this volume available to users before they
can access it.

For Windows NT users, create a share
