CIFS Settings (Samba)

Common Internet File System (CIFS) settings are managed within the Samba web interface. The
Samba software suite is a collection of programs that implements the Server Message Block
(commonly abbreviated as SMB) protocol for UNIX systems. This protocol is also referred to as
the Common Internet File System (CIFS) or LanManager protocol. Among other options,
Windows shares and WINS Addresses can be managed within Samba.
To access Samba:

1. From the NAS VA web interface, select the Configuration tab.
2. Navigate the logic tree, under System Configuration > Networking Settings select

Samba. A username and password are required to enter Samba . Local help for Samba
is available within the Samba selection.

WINS Addresses

Similar to DNS, the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) is the Windows NT server method
for associating a computer's host name with its address.
To specify the WINS settings:

1. Using the NAS web interface, click the Configuration tab, navigate down the System

Configuration tree to the Networking Settings and select Samba .

2. Select the Globals button. Scroll down to the WINS Options section.
3. Enter your WINS server IP address in the WINS server field. Local help is available at

this location.
