If you use a later version of the plug-in, the Command View SDM will not launch correctly.
Later versions cause problems because the plug-in no longer uses the internet Explorer
certificate database and instead references the internal database maintained by keytool. You can
get further information about this change at http://developer.java.sun.com.
The first time you attempt to launch the Command View SDM, your browser will determine
whether you have the correct version of the Java Plug-in installed.
This plug-in supports Sun Solaris, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
Follow these steps to install the Java Plug-in 1.3.1:
1. Go to the Sun Microsystems web site at http://java.sun.com/products/archive/index.html
2. Select the Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition, v 1.3.1 hyperlink.
3. Select the appropriate download product and follow the instructions for installation on
your system.
To verify that the correct version of the plug-in is installed on your Windows system, select My
Computer > Control Panel . Add/Remove Programs and review the current software on your
system. if you successfully installed the plug-in, it appears in the installed program list.
If you have already installed the Command View SDM certificate, you should be able to launch
the Command View SDM web interface. If you haven't installed the command View SDM
certificate, follow the directions in that section.
Modifying the .java.policy File
You may find it necessary to modify your .java.policy file if you have other applications which
require a later version of the Java Plug-in. The .java.policy file lets you orverride or tailor the
default Java security policies. If you have the Java run-time environment installed on your
system, you can use a program called policytool to manage your security policy file. This
program typically resides in the Java/bin directory. After you locate and start the program,
configure the .java.policy file as follows:
1. Select Add Policy Entry.
2. Leave the CodeBase field empty.
3. Click Add Permission.
4. Go to the Permissions drop-down list and select All Permission.
5. Click OK, then click Done.
6. Save this modified .java.policy file by selecting File > Save.
7. Exit policytool.
