Details
o
Provides a detailed page of information on the selected storage device, describing the
device software, hardware configuration and version. This can be useful to users
knowledgeable in the detailed inner working of the attached arrays..
Initialize and configure Device
o
Prepares the storage device for use with the GUI. Any existing Logical Unit (LUN)
configuration on the devi ce is deleted, and a new LUN is created encompassing the
entire available storage. This new LUN is then added to a LVM Volume Group on the
server.
o
The underlying configuration of the storage device is not modified. To manage the
configuration at the lowest level (e.g. RAID levels, hot spares, etc) select the External
Storage Devices tree item, which will bring up the device’s Command View SDM Web
management interface.
Add storage on selected Device
o
You may create arbitrary sized Volumes on the storage device which can then be
exported to external systems via NFS or CIFS. This menu item will ask for the size of
Volume you wish to create, and the local CIFS Share name. It will be NFS exported by
default. You may remove existing volumes listed in the Device Summary by using the
“Delete” button displayed on the page Device Summary form.
Physical Drive Quick Setup
The Physical Drive Quick Setup page allows you the quickly configure an attached disk drive (not
a RAID storage device) for use. Use this when you want to quickly configure a new physical disk
drive attached to the server.
From the NAS web interface, go to the Storage tab. Under Quick Setup, select Physical Drive
Quick Setup.
The page will list any attached disk drives which are not being used by the system. If there are no
devices available, a dialog box will report the fact.
To manage a device, first select it in the grid. You may then specify:
o
a Mount Point in the local file system (e.g. /local/newdisk )
o
whether the device should be NFS exported to external UNIX or Linux systems
o
a Share Name to be used by CIFS
o
whether the devices should be shared to external Windows systems via CIFS
The GUI will create a new file system on the device, mount it on the server file system and
optionally export it via NFS and SMB. All existing data on the device will be lost.
Caution: Creating a new file system on the device will cause all existing data on that device to be
lost!
Once created, more detailed configuration may be performed using the Advanced Setup tree
items within the Storage tab. Choose one of the following Help links to learn more:
