Table 14 Licensed Capacity Type
How to Estimate the Licensed Capacity
Explanation
Type
See
Based on Used Capacity” (page 46)
The licensed capacity is estimated using the
capacity that the program product option will use.
The estimated capacity differs depending on the
program product option:
•
Normal volumes (local volumes)
•
External volumes mapped to the storage system
•
Pools
Used capacity
See
Based on Mounted Capacity”
(page 47)
The licensed capacity is estimated using the
capacity mounted in the entire disk drive of the
storage system.
Mounted capacity
N/A
You can use the program product option, regardless
of the volume capacity.
Unlimited capacity
Estimating Licensed Capacity Based on Used Capacity
There are three capacities to use for estimating the licensed capacity, depending on the program
product option:
•
Normal volume capacity
The method to calculate normal volume capacity depends on the volume emulation types.
Table 15 Methods for Calculating Capacity of a Normal Volume
Formula for Calculating Capacity of a Normal Volume
Volume Emulation Type
720 KB x (number of user cylinders)
3380-x
870 KB x (number of user cylinders)
3390-x
Same as the capacity specified when creating the volume.
OPEN-x
NOTE:
In the left column of
, x indicates a number or a letter. For example,
OPEN-x refers to emulation types such as OPEN-3 and OPEN-V.
You can use the formulas in
to estimate capacity for purchase. An example
is given in
