You may have inserted the diskette upside-down or it my
not be inserted all the way. Remove the diskette from the
drive and reinsert it with the label facing up. Be sure to turn
down the diskette drive latch. (See Chapter 3 for detailed
instructions on inserting and removing diskettes.)
If reinserting the diskette does not solve the problem and
you have access to another diskette drive of the same type,
place the diskette in the other drive and repeat the
operation. If this works, the trouble may be in your diskette
drive. See “Diskette Drive Problems,” below.
Check to see if you have inserted the right type of diskette.
Follow these guidelines:
In a 1.2MB drive, use 5
double-sided, high-
density, 96 TPI diskettes. You can also use a 360KB
diskette, but if you write to it in this drive, you may
have trouble using it in a 360KB drive later.
In a 1.44MB drive, use 3
double-sided, high-
density, 135 TPI diskettes. This type of drive can also
read and write to 720KB diskettes.
In a 360KB drive, use 5
double-sided, double-
density, 48 TPI diskettes. You cannot use 1.2MB
diskettes in this drive.
In a 720KB drive, use 3
double-sided, double-
density, 135 TPI diskettes. You cannot use 1.44MB
diskettes in this drive.
See “Types of Diskette Drives” in Chapter 3 for more
information.
