How to Use External TAD with the Unit
When you leave your fax machine set in TAD mode, phone calls will be forwarded to the externally
connected telephone answering device, and your fax calls will be received automatically. When
you connect the external TAD to FAX-810MC/820MC, you should choose MSG CTR mode and
preset Memory Usage to FAX ONLY and EXT.TAD ON (see page 8-3.), or EXT. TAD ONLY mode
(see page 8-5).

Connecting an External TAD to the Unit
You may connect an external TAD to your fax machine, as shown below. Use the
“EXT.” jack on your fax machine.
The TAD must be a physical device that is connected to the “EXT” jack on the back
of the fax machine.
FAX ONLY mode and EXT. TAD ONLY mode (see page 8-3 and 8-5) of
Message Center will not work with an outside telephone answering
service.
Helpful Hints When You Use External TAD
1. You can inform callers beforehand that if they call manually and get your
telephone answering device when they want to send a fax, all they have to do
is press your remote code (*51 unless you have changed it) to activate your fax
machine from a touch tone phone.
2. Another alternative is to record a TAD message that says, for example, “This
answering machine is connected to a fax unit. Tf yon wish to leave a voice
message, please speak after the beep. If you wish to send a fax message, please
press (your remote activation code) after the beep. Thank you.”
3. You need to erase the incoming messages on your external telephone answering
device when it’s full, or FAX ONLY mode (EXT. TAD;ON) and EXT. TAD ONLY
mode will not answer any calls, faxes or otherwise.
