The next screen will say: “Place substance on plate!” Put the sample material on the plate and choose a
rotational speed between 0 and 1rpm using the slide scale on the touch screen. This will allow the spindle
to rotate slowly while the spindle moves downward to make contact with the sample. Press OK for the
spindle to move down into position. The gap setting value will be displayed on the screen beneath the
image of the rheometer. Example: 0.050 mm.
The screens that follow direct you through the normal steps to set up the Run Single test.
After the test is complete and you finish your review of the data, press OK to go to the next screen which
asks: “Do you want to change measuring system or sample?” If you click “Yes”, the next screen will tell
you to open the spindle coupling before the head begins to move upward. The head moves upward after
the coupling is open. This leaves the spindle in contact with the sample while the head moves up. Once
the head is in the up position, remove the spindle carefully. Clean the spindle and plate. Proceed with the
next test.
If you click “No”, you can run another test with the same sample. You can repeat the same test or set up
a different test using Run Single to enter the new test parameters.
B.3 Automatic Gap Setting in Program Mode
The procedure is similar to Run Single. Press the program button that you want to use, such as “Start
Prog. 3” The sequence of screens that follows will direct you to attach the spindle. The RST-CPS will
automatically set the gap and run the test.
