Preparing for Operation
If you installed the KRX3 subreceiver yourself, you must complete the following before you can operate the
subreceiver:
If you have external speakers connected to your K3, disconnect them and use the internal speaker for the
following procedure.
Enter the CONFIG menu and verify SPKRS is set to 1. (You will not hear any audio from the subreceiver
if SPKRS is set to 2 as is frequently done when listening to the main receiver with stereo headphones. After
completing the following steps, refer to the K3 Owner’s manual for more details about listening to both main
and sub receivers using line out, stereo phones or dual loudspeakers.)
Enable the KRX3 module by entering the
CONFIG
menu, then under
KRX3
, selecting one of the following:
ANT=BNC
: Specifies that the KRX3’s auxiliary antenna source is the AUX RF BNC jack on the rear
panel. Use this setting if you connected the KRX3’s AUX RF input to the AUX RF BNC jack, or if you did
not connect anything to the KRX3’s AUX RF input.
ANT=ATU
: Specifies that the KRX3’s auxiliary antenna source is the ATU’s non-transmit antenna (1 or 2).
Use this setting only if you connected the KRX3’s AUX RF input to the KAT3’s TMP jack.
NOTES:
1. You must have K3 MCU firmware revision 2.11 or later and DSP firmware revision 1.81 or later
installed for the above
CONFIG
menu options to be present. If you’ve not updated your K3’s
firmware before, see Firmware Upgrades in your Owner’s manual for details.
2. When using the KRX3 auxiliary antenna source, you must have the correct TMP cable installed
between the KRX3 auxiliary antenna input and either the KAT3 or AUX RF BNC connector. See
Auxiliary KRX3 Antenna Input (Optional) on page 26 for details.
Calibrate the auxiliary KSYN3 as described under Calibration Procedures / Synthesizer in the Owner’s
Manual.
Refer to the data you recorded in Table 1on page 33 and set up the filters you have installed as described
under Configuration / Crystal Filter Setup in the Owner’s Manual.
After exploring the operation of your KRX3 as described under in the next section, use the K3 Utility
program to check for updates to the firmware. Be sure to check the box to load DSP2 for the KRX3 DSP board.
There are other optional calibration procedures and setup choices that you can do at any time, such as calibrating
the S-meter. These are also described in your K3 Owner’s Manual.
