Additional Safety Instructions
Rip Type Cuts.
» N ever use the m iter gauge when ripping
• U se a push stick w henever the fence is 2 or m ore
inches from the blade
•
W hen thru-saw ing, use an auxiliary fence and push
block w henever the fence m ust be betw een 1/2 and 2
inches of the blade
» N ever Ihru-saw rip cuts narrow er than 1/2 inch (See
“Basic
Saw
O perations-R ipping
and
Bevel
R ipping"
sections,)
• N ever rip anything shorter than 10” long
• W hen using a push slick or push block, the trailing end
of the board m ust be square A push stick or block
against an uneven end could slip off or push the work
away from the fence

• Alw ays use featherboards for any non thru rip type cuts
(See “Basic Saw O perations - U sing Featherboards for

Before Starting,
• To avoid kickbacks and slips into the blade, m ake sure
the rip fence is parallel to the saw btade
»Before
thru-saw ing,
check
the
anfi-kickback
pawls,
The paw ls m ust stop a kickback once it has started.
R eplace
or
sharpen
anti-kickback
paw ls
when
points
becom e dull (S ee "M aintaining Y our Table Saw - Anti

• Plastic and com position (like hardboard) m aterials m ay
be cut on your saw H ow ever, since these are usually
quite hard and slippery, the anti-kickback paw ls m ay
not stop a kickback Therefore, be especially careful in
your setup and cutting procedures
While Thru-sawing.
«To avoid kickbacks and slips into the blade, alw ays
push forw ard on the section of the w orkpiece betw een
the saw blade and the rip fence N ever push forward on
the piece being cut off
Crosscut Type Cuts.
» N ever use the rip fence w hen crosscutting
• An auxiliary w ood facing attached to the m iter gauge
can
help
prevent
w orkpiece
tw isting
and
throwbacks
Attach it to the slots provided M ake the facing long
enough and big enough to support your w ork M ake
sure, how ever, it w ill not interfere w ith the saw blade
guard
Before Starting.
♦ U se jigs or fixtures to help hold any piece too sm all to
extend across the full length of the m iter gauge face
during the cut. This lets you property hold the m iter
gauge
and
w orkpiece
and
helps
keep
your
hands
away from the blade
While Cutting
