Accessing components
The ColorPASS includes three removable panels: right and left side panels and the front
panel. (You do not need to remove the top panel in order to access other components. To
replace the top panel, see page B-1.) To remove the front panel, first remove the right and
left side panels. To access components, remove panels as follows:
• Left side panel only—Copier interface board; DIMM(s); CPU and CPU cooling
assembly; HDD and DVD drive ribbon cables; fan; power supply and power cables;
HDD.
• Left, right, and front panels—User interface board; Control Panel buttons; front
panel; jewel; reset and power cables and switches; speaker; DVD drive; motherboard.
(To remove the motherboard, you need to slide the DVD drive a few inches out the
front of the chassis.)
Follow standard electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions when handling internal
components. Always attach a grounding strap to your wrist and attach the other end to a
good ground. (See “Precautions” on page xiii.)
If the ColorPASS is powered on, be sure to shut down the system before you open it.
Always use the procedures “To shut down the ColorPASS” on page 4-4, “To open the
ColorPASS” on page 4-5, and “To remove the front panel” on page 4-9 when you need
to open the ColorPASS for inspection or service.
If you need to replace the top panel or the plastic piece of a side panel (for example, if the
plastic piece is damaged), follow the procedures in Appendix B, “Replacing top and side
plastics.”
