An important part of
computer preventative
maintenance is making
sure you’re prepared for
any possible emergencies.
In this section you will
create an Anti-Virus
Emergency diskette.
If your computer is
infected with a virus, you
may not be able to access
the hard disk or start
Windows. An Emergency
Diskette contains the
operating system files
necessary to restart your
computer.
If you ever need to start your
computer from the
Emergency Diskette, you
should immediately perform
a scan of your computer and
its contents.
Creating an Anti-Virus Emergency Diskette
1. Press the Help
G
button on the
keyboard to access the Compaq
support tools.
2. Click the McAfee VirusScan
*
icon. The VirusScan Launcher is
displayed.
3. Click Tools. The Utility
Toolbox is displayed.
4. Click Emergency Disk. The
Emergency Disk Wizard is
displayed.
5. Insert a formatted diskette in the
diskette drive.
6. Click Don’t Format.
7. Click Next.
8. Click Finish.
9. Label the disk VirusScan Emergency Diskette, and store it
in a cool and dry place.
