PROCESS PIPE ROTATION AND PIPE
REPLACEMENT
In some applications, e.g. oil sands and minerals processing, process
pipes are sometimes rotated and / or replaced to extend their
operating life. Each of these situations will be discussed this section.
14.1 Pipe Rotation
The HD VF-100 sensor cover and sensor band must be removed and
re-installed on the process pipe.
Note: the standard VF series of flow meters do not necessarily have
to removed during pipe rotation unless the resulting sensor cover
orientation lies outside the criteria found in Section 7.6 of this manual.
Sensor removal and re-assembly is as follows:
1. Remove the sensor assembly in accordance with Section 13 of
this manual. Be sure to remove the sensor cable from the
preamplifier board prior to removing the cover.
2. Rotate process pipes.
3. Re-install flow meter sensor assembly
a. Install compliant sheet on pipe. Align edges with pipe
weld seam.
b. Install sensor band with attachment rails on top of pipe.
c. Reinstall the sensor thermal barrier (if so equipped).
d. Reinstall cover.
e. Refer to Section 7 Sensor Installation for full details.
4. Re-measure the process pipe inside diameter and enter the
new diameter in the transmitter for greatest flow reading
accuracy.
14.2 Pipe Replacement
Whenever a process pipe is replaced the HD VF-100 and the VF-100
sensor assembly must be removed and re-installed. Refer to the Pipe
Rotation Procedures above.
