Switching to a Standby Controller

You can force an active metadata controller to turn over control of a volume to a

standby controller using the

cvadmin

command or by stopping the file system

manager process for the volume.

To switch a volume to a standby controller:

Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) on any controller or client connected to the

SAN.

In Terminal, type:

$ sudo cvadmin -e ”fail volume“

where

volume

is the name of an Xsan volume.

To see a list of volumes hosted by a controller, open Terminal on the controller and

type:

$ sudo cvadmin -e select

To see which controller is hosting a volume, open Xsan Admin, select the volume, and

click Overview.
