Chapter 3

Hardware for the Equium 8100D

This chapter provides technical information about the Equium 8100D
hardware. It explains how to remove and replace the case and how to
add or replace components.

System components are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge
(ESD) and require careful handling to avoid damage. When installing or
removing components, always work on a flat, static-free surface.
Keep components in their antistatic packaging until you are ready to
install them.
Wear an antistatic wrist strap, or touch the computer’s metal chassis
before you handle components.

Opening the case

The case panels and front bezel of the system unit are designed to be
easily removed so that you can access all components and the
motherboard.

Precautions

Work on a flat, static-free surface. If you are not wearing an antistatic
wrist strap, touch the computer’s metal chassis to ground any static
charge you have built up before handling any electronic components.

Keep the device in its antistatic bag until you are ready to install it.

Avoid touching circuit board components on the device.

Don’t drop the device.

Don’t place the device on the antistatic bag or slide it over any
surface.

Before opening the case

1. Follow your operating system’s shutdown procedure to turn off the

computer.

2. Unplug all computer and peripheral device power cables from the wall

outlets or from your surge protector.
