To keep the computer clean, gently wipe the monitor and computer case
with a slightly dampened cloth. Cover the keyboard when not in use.
Moving the computer
1. Make sure all disk activity has ended (the drive-access light stops
glowing).
2. If a floppy disk is in the floppy disk drive, remove it.
3. If a disc is in the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, remove it and securely
close the drive tray.
4. Shut down the operating system and turn off the computer.
5. Disconnect all cables.
Handling floppy disks
■ Store your floppy disks in their boxes or other containers to protect
them and keep them clean.
■ Don’t slide back the protective metal cover.
■ Avoid touching the magnetic surface of a floppy disk. Fingerprints can
prevent the drive from reading the data held on a floppy disk.
■
Never twist or bend a floppy disk.
■ Keep floppy disks at room temperature and avoid exposing them to
direct sunlight because it could corrupt or destroy data.
■ Never place heavy objects on floppy disks.
■ Never eat, smoke, or use erasers near your floppy disks. Foreign
particles can damage the disk’s surface.
■ Keep floppy disks away from objects, such as large motors or speaker
phones, that generate strong magnetic fields which could erase the
data on the disks.
■ If a floppy disk is dirty, clean the exterior casing with a soft cloth
moistened in water. Never use cleaning fluids.
■ Store floppy disks within this range of ambient conditions:
■ Temperature: 10° to 35° C (50° to 95° F).
■ Relative Humidity: 30% to 80% non-condensing.
Handling compact discs
■ Store your compact discs in their original containers to protect them
from scratches and keep them clean.
■ Never bend a compact disc or place heavy objects on top of it.
■ Never apply a label to, or otherwise mar the surface of, a compact
disc.
■ Hold a compact disc by its outside edge. Fingerprints on the surface
of a disc can prevent the drive from reading the data properly.
■ Avoid exposing compact discs to direct sunlight or extreme heat or
cold.
