The card may be defective, or it may not be supported—contact the card
manufacturer or Hewlett-Packard.*

If a floppy drive doesn’t work
Check to see that the floppy disk drive configuration is correct.
1. Press
FN+F2
to start the Software Configuration utility.
2. From the Disks menu, choose Floppy Disk Drive.
3. Select 1.44 Mb and choose OK.
4. From the Exit menu, choose Save and Exit.
5. Choose OK.
If a drive you specify isn’t found
•
For a plug-in card, make sure it’s working properly—see
“If a PCMCIA card
doesn’t work properly in a card slot”
.
If a card’s write-protect switch doesn’t work
•
Reinsert the card after you change its switch setting.
If disk access is unreliable
•
Make sure 32-bit disk access is disabled (the default setting)—use the Enhanced
icon in Control Panel, then choose Virtual Memory and Change. (You
can use 32-
bit file access, which is the default setting.)
•
If you used Microsoft DriveSpace to compress drive C, you should turn off 32-bit
file access if you’re copying files to or from another compressed drive.
If the CardView program doesn’t run
•
CardView runs only if you’re using the maximum level of PCMCIA card support.
To check the support level, exit Windows and type
cd \cardsoft
and clcfg.
From the Configure menu, choose CardLite. If you change the support level,
remember to press
CTRL+ALT+DEL
to activate the change.
If files on drive C become damaged
•
If possible, exit Windows and type
scandisk
or chkdsk c: /f
. This may
repair the damage.
•
If possible, restore the damaged files from backup disks.
•
If the OmniBook has problems rebooting from drive C, see
“If the OmniBook
doesn’t reboot successfully”
.
If you’re using DriveSpace on removable disks
Floppy disks and PCMCIA disks are removable disks.
•
If you have used Microsoft DriveSpace compression to compress drive C
and you
