For best performance of distances that are larger than the distances described in Table 22 (page
55) , HP recommends installing FC-SW.

For Fibre Channel interface connections, you can use the same switches as ordinary switch
connections. No special settings are required for the storage systems.
A Fibre Channel interface connection provides three different configurations (see the HP
StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 LUN Manager User Guide):
•
Direct connection (see Figure 12 (page 55) ): Two devices are connected directly together.
•
Switch connection (see Figure 13 (page 56) ): Up to three optical fibre cables are connected
together via the switches to connect the devices. Up to two switches can be used.
•
Extender connection (see Figure 14 (page 57) ): Channel extenders and switches are used to
connect the devices across large distances.

* To set ports, use LUN Manager and set the port topology to: Fabric off, FC-AL.
In the environment using 8US P/K between the MCU and the RCU and in case of a long distance
(approximately 100km) and direct connection configuration, by setting host mode options, the
response time of the host mode I/O can be improved.
