A Applying old SMP standalone licenses
Starting with Insight Control 6.0, HP Insight Control server migration is no longer available as
a standalone and is available exclusively through Insight Control. The addition of server migration
functionality into HP Insight Control is a function of the Insight Control software, not of the
license key or the part number. There are no new part numbers needed for the addition of server
migration functionality. So if your destination server is licensed by Insight Control 6.0 or above,
you can perform unlimited migrations to the Insight Control licensed server.
The standard procedure for licensing Insight Control server migration is to purchase Insight
Control licenses and apply them through the Deploy
→License Manager menu item from the
CMS management console.
If you have unused licenses from older versions of Insight server migration (SMP v3.0 to v3.7)
you can still continue to use those licenses to perform migrations to servers that are not licensed
for Insight Control.
When the destination server is not licensed through Insight Control, one standalone server
migration license key is required for each successful migration. Standalone server migration
licenses, unlike Insight Control licenses, do not need to be deployed to the destination server
separately outside of the migration wizard. Insight Control server migration consumes Insight
Control server migration licenses after a successful migration.
• A P2P or V2P migration can only be performed if at least one valid server migration license
for X2P is available
• A P2V or V2V migration can only be performed if at least one valid server migration license
for X2V is available
Use the license tab in the server migration wizard only if you have old/unused server migration
standalone licenses. For Insight Control licenses select Deploy
→License Manager in the CMS
management console.
Adding standalone Insight server migration licenses
1. Click the License tab in the Insight Control server migration wizard.
2. Enter license key.
3. Click Add.
NOTE: While you may use old unused Insight server migration (SMP) licenses on the License
tab of the server migration wizard, adding those old or unused SMP licenses to the Insight Control
license manager is not supported.
