Powering On and Off a Remote I/O Enclosure

Managing a remote I/O enclosure and remote external disk drives is similar to
managing any I/O enclosure or disk drives, but power-on cables cannot be used. This
affects the power on and power off procedures.

Powering On a System With a Remote I/O Enclosure

1. At the remote site:

a. Locate the power-on push button above the handle on the remote I/O

enclosure.

b. Press and hold down the power-on push button for at least one second.

c.

Check fan activity for the I/O enclosure by placing your hand near the outlet
grill located above slots 51 through 54 on the service side of the enclosure. If
the fans do not start turning a few seconds after you power on the I/O
enclosure, check that the AC power cord for the I/O enclosure is properly
connected. If the green LED lights are lit but the fans are not turning, power off
the I/O enclosure immediately and contact your service provider. If you cannot
determine the cause of the problem, contact your service provider.

2. At the local site:

a. Locate the power-on push button above the handle on either processor

multifunction (PMF) customer-replaceable unit (CRU) in group 01 (the group
containing processors 0 and 1).

b. Press and hold down the power-on push button for at least one second.

c.

For each enclosure, check fan activity by placing your hand near the outlet grill
located above slots 51 through 54 on the service side of the enclosure.

d. For each component in the system enclosures, make sure that the green LEDs

are lit and that none of amber LEDs are lit.

3. At the remote site:

a. If you know AC power is being supplied to the I/O enclosure, but it still does not

appear to be powered on, the system might be running internal power-on self-
test (POSTs). Wait several minutes; it can take as long as 10 minutes for the
POSTs to finish.

b. If the green LED is not lit after POSTs finish, repeat the power-on procedure. If

one green LED still does not light, a system component might have failed its
POST.

4. At the local site, you can now start your system as described in the
