Architecture

Figure K-1: Mediant 2000 Supported Architecture

Figure K-1

illustrates standard Calling Card IVR application architecture. The figure depicts in

general terms an incoming PSTN IP call being conveyed to the IP network.

The architecture comprises the following components:

Mediant 2000

- The PSTN gateway that includes the VoiceXML interpreter which generates

events in response to user actions (e.g., spoken or character input received, disconnect) and
system events (e.g., timer expiration). These events are acted on by the VoiceXML
interpreter itself, as specified by the VoiceXML document.

HTTP Server

– (Document Server), sends out the VoiceXML script in response to the

Mediant 2000 (the VoiceXML interpreter) request.

RADIUS Server

– A centralized Authentication, Authorization and Accounting server for

remote access users that communicate via the RADIUS protocol.

VoiceBrowser

- (not shown in this diagram), responsible for the TTS (Text to Speech) and

ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) services (not supported in this version).

Proxy Server

– Standard management tool for SIP networks. Performs essential control,

administrative and managerial functions.

MediaPack –

Analog media gateway, provides excellent voice quality and optimized packet

voice, fax and modem streaming over the IP network.
