Test Access Link (TAL) Bus Extender
The Test Access Link (TAL) is used for the following connections:
• To connect the test head to the Master MTAS shelf via the TAPs/DATA 2 RJ-45
connector.
• To extend the TAL bus to multiple chassis in a daisy-chain configuration via the
DATA 1 and TAPs/DATA 2 RJ-45 connectors.
For daisy-chain configurations, the TAL bus is extended from one chassis to the next by
connecting the DATA 1 (OUT) RJ-45 connector of one shelf to the TAPs/DATA 2 (IN)
RJ-45 connector of the next shelf until the last shelf of the daisy chain has been
connected as shown in Figure 30 (which shows one master and two slave shelves).
The TAL bus extender cabling sequence for a full daisy-chained system (12 chassis) is
listed in Table 16.

TAL Custom Cabling
The TAL cable must be wired as shown in Table 17 and Figure 36. Comtest
recommends that shielded cable be used for the TAL installation. The TAPS/DATA 2
and DATA 1 RJ-45 jacks are shielded and tied to the chassis ground to accommodate
shielded RJ-45 plugs.
